Carol Wolfson

Carol A.Wolfson is a Consultant with 30 years work experience in the Asia-Pacific region.

Following her scholarship studies at Fudan University and trade employment at Jardine Matheson (China) Ltd. in Shanghai in the early eighties, and concurrently completing her Journalism Degree at Northwestern University, Chicago, Carol worked for eight years as a market-entry consultant in Taiwan and Hong Kong, before starting her own company, Wolfson & Associates, in 1992.

Aside from her work with foreign companies in Asian markets, Carol became heavily involved in NGO work in the early nineties, first by starting/editor of the Hong Kong WWF local publication. She also became involved in the development of a major international children's charity, which has operations in Vietnam and Mongolia, initially in fundraising in Tokyo and later joining the board of the Foundation and acting as International Director 1997/1998.

On moving to Beijing in 1999, Carol set up an organization to raise funds to build schools for children in remote areas of China. Two school projects, housing over 500 primary school children, were completed before she re-located to Hong Kong in 2002. While still in Beijing, she started to assist the local office of the International Found for Animal Welfare, based in Massachusetts, and then was invited to serve on their International Board of Directors, 2002-2005.

In 2004, Carol re-located to Shanghai where she established Second Chance Animal Aid (SCAA) (http://www.scaashanghai.org ). SCAA is a private, non-profit organization committed to protecting and improving the health and welfare of companion animals through education, health care, advocacy, outreach, adoption and the promotion of foster care - as an alternative approach to traditional shelters. SCAA is the only international-standard animal welfare organization in Shanghai and serves as the primary source of internet-based information worldwide for Shanghai animal welfare (both companion animals and endangered species), pet import/export, education, etc. The organization has been operating for six years and is recognized as an exemplar by the RSPCA in the UK. She continues to act as founder and retains close links with the organization.

She has served on the advisory board of the BaiNian (Beacon) Vocational School, Beijing’s first tuition-free vocational school for migrant/low income students, as Director of Strategic Planning/Fundraising for the Catalyst Foundation which helps disadvantaged women in China, and is on the board of/assists several other Asian/international charities.

Carol is also the published author of a light-hearted memoir, "The Last Pluck", released in 2007.

Carol is now based in Malaysia with her husband and two cats. She has been involved with the Himalayan Consensus Institute as an advisory board member since its establishment in 2005.
