Eco-Tourism: Snapshots From Four Villages

by Admin - 09/22/2009 16:33

Nowadays Eco-tourism has a big meaning, even if it has not a specific definition yet. It appeals to ecologically and socially conscious individuals. It helps educate the traveller, providing funds for conservation. It directly benefits the economic development and political empowerment of local communities, respecting different cultures and human rights. Also in Yunnan, one of the most ethnically and biologically fascinating province of China, it’s going to expand in these last years in order to help a long-term sustainable development. When considering the advance of rural eco-tourism, many Yunnan people feel that maintaining culture is at least as important as maintaining the environment. Four sites in northwest Yunnan - Shaxi Township and Yuhu , Dimaluo and Jisha Villages – can make us aware of different Eco-touristic experiences. Local governments give too much relevance on profitability, so the villages have difficulties to sustain a true eco-tourism but they are strongly working to create their own one.
