...it all began with three expeditions in search of of the mythical kingdom called Shangri-la...

The Explorer's Club of New York invited Himalayan Consensus founder Laurence Brahm to present the narrative of three expeditions undertaken between2002-2004 "searching for Shangri-la" that led to the Himalayan Consensus as a fresh approach to preserving culture and environment that draws from indigenous knowledge.

Explorer's Club members Bob Ashton and David Hoffman display the globe that legendary explorer Thor Hyerdall used in planning the Kon Tiki expedition. The Explorer's Club is an icon of Manhattan celebrating great explorations. Famous explorers who have presented there include Edmund Hillary the first man to summit Mount Everest. The table pictured here was said to have been used by former adventurer President Theodore Rosevelt when planning the Panama Canal.
