Investment participation is being sought for the opportunity of direct stakeholder involvement in the boutique hotels within Himalayan Consensus Communities. The advantages reach beyond a reasonable investment return because such investments will have a direct impact on the communities by offering:

  1. Employment opportunities to local indigenous people;
  2. Skill training and career paths; and
  3. A cohesive identity as being part of a community protecting local indigenous culture.

Microfinance lines will be established in connection with the investments. Shambhala’s approach is to have all items in the hotel — curtains, lanterns, coffee cups, bed sheets, to name a few — all made by the local people under Shambhala’s microfinance program. This would support and underwrite the microfinance in the community for at least one year, following which the hotel provides the shop where these items can be sold to visitors. This integrated approach has been proven highly successful in the Lhasa Consensus Community.

These investments are in a potentially high tourism-sector growth region facing challenges among the highest levels of poverty in the world. For this reason, the impact of socially-responsible investments will present positive transformation and betterment of lifestyle while preserving the rich heritage and biodiversity of the region.
