Mission Statement
Seva Mandir creates platforms for people of plural backgrounds and perspectives to cooperate and work together, in order to benefit and empower the least advantaged in society. It equips village communities in Udaipur and Rajsamand districts (South Rajasthan) with skills and resources and serves as a bridge of communication between them and other government or non-governmental organizations.
Background Information
Seva Mandir was formed in 1968 and started from small – working on issues concerning adult education. Over the years, it has made significant progress in the fields of strengthening sustainable livelihoods, enhancing human capabilities, improving lives and building institutions of self-governance at the community level.
Activities of Organisation
Education
At present, Seva Mandir supports a total of 176 community-run education centers and have since, helped 4,977 students secure quality education. These centers are run by local teachers, each trained in carefully developed programmes and in turn, they help provide children with an education that exceeds what is available in government schools.
A pilot programme was launched in 2008 to address the problem of children leaving school early and migrating out of their villages for work. Annual scholarships are offered to students to offset economic pressures and school level awards are also given to individuals who meet certain performance criteria.
Seva Mandir also supports 38 village libraries with the objectives of strengthening continuing education at the village level and organizes learning camps to equip out of school children with essential reading and writing skills.
Health
Seva Mandir helps to operate 2 Referral Health Centers in Kochla and Kojawada. These centers carry out laboratory investigations and provide primary care for the local communities. The organization is also involved in medical research and the monitoring and evaluation for various government health services.Women’s EmpowermentSeva Mandir is committed towards promoting gender equality in local communities.
In 2006, 7 Women’s Resource Centers were established to provide information, counseling and guidance to female victims of gender discrimination and abuse. In addition, the organization also supports 546 Self Help Groups, reaching to 9309 women across the Rajasthani region.

Through well-developed strategies and action, Seva Mandir has successfully brought change and positive impact to communities in the southern Rajasthani region. For many years, the organization has sought community-based solutions, brought healthcare and education to the masses and has helped to empower women and the disadvantaged in the societies.
