Kunde Foundation

Location: South-East Asia, Especially Tibet

Mission Statement

Their mission is to encourage and work with people so they can adopt sustainable and replicable activities to relieve poverty and improve health, education and protect the environment for the benefit of their community.

Background Information

The KunDe Foundation started in 1999, and registered as a charity in the United Kingdom. It is a relief and development agency committed to working anywhere in the world and primarily with marginalized and disadvantaged communities. KunDe means ‘health and well-being for all’ in Tibetan, and their aim is to help people reach these goals. Their activities focus on helping communities improve their quality of life in areas such as nutrition, safe water, effective sanitation, sufficient income, quality education and health services. The KunDe Foundation is willing to consider invitations to work together with communities and departments so they have the information and resources they need to improve their own lives and those of their community. KunDe staff and trustees have many decades of experience in cross cultural and development work around the globe. The Foundation supports a small office in the UK that provides support to the activities overseas.

Activities of Organisation

The KunDe Foundation has a wide range of activities, which mainly take place in remote areas of Asia. Doctors and hospital laboratory technicians receive special training in order to effectively improve health services in remote areas. Clinics have been built and provided with equipment provided by Kunde. The foundation has also offered specialized care by setting up surgical camps and providing prosthetic limbs for the disabled.   KunDe Foundation supports community development by offering community health and development training, planting trees, and building compost-latrines, household food gardens and winter-greenhouses. Furthermore, it publishes health and community development publications (in English, Chinese and Tibetan)   Vocational training is offered to local indigenous people to enable them to develop certain professional skills, such as carpentry and carving, house and furniture painting, sewing, embroidery, bee keeping, motor bike repair, and computer training. Microloans are offered for the start-up costs of small businesses.

Consensus Community Perspective

KunDe Foundation mirrors Himalayan Consensus principles in its fight against poverty, and in setting up projects which enable the local indigenous people to improve their living standards in a sustainable manner.
